On Unholy Mastery.

After some deliberation (and lot's of exasperation) I have decided to attempt an Unholy redesign to try to spark some ideas in the brains of the big blue drug pusher we call Blizzard Entertainment since we seem to have fallen into a pit of stagnation with relatively few changes coming through the pipe for the spec with seemingly the most mechanical problems I've seen to date. This is going to be a multi part write up since I really don't have the time to do a full report at once.

I'm going to start relatively simple with Unholy's mastery, it is BORING. Flat damage increase stats with no interaction at all are really not good for gameplay in my opinion. While it isn't exactly a good stat for them I think the Monk WW mastery is probably one of the best designed in the game because it requires player interaction and actual thinking to use it to it's fullest potential. I propose a complete redesign of this mastery (which this idea is something I have been pushing for a while)

  • Mastery: Necromancer's Might; Changes Army of the Dead to become free no channel but now requires charges of Necromancer Might to activate. Necromancer's Might, Stacks to 10, AotD consumes all stacks of NeM to summon a number of minions equal to the number of stacks consumed. there are 2 types of minions Ghouls and Skeleton Mages, each gains damage based upon MELEE STATS  no more of this Gary nonsense blizz (more on that later). Skeleton Mages shoot frost bolts, Ghouls of course melee and claw, Ghouls apply a disease called Corpse Rot which deals damage based upon the damage they do (this will work as an ignite shared between all the aotd ghouls) Skelemages will do the same with a disease called Chill of the Grave.   NeM stacks should be a chance proc on Scourge Strike based on mastery.
This will solve at least one issue for unholy, on demand burst. It will give us the possibility of 4 diseases (which will boost Scourge Strike damage) on target as well as it being a controlled usage ability requiring some amount of skill to use/save in proper situations.
